I'm a 13 yr old male, and weigh in at 145-50 pounds. A lot of it is fat, although i do have some muscle. I was on my own "made-up" diet about 2 years ago, got down to 120 (still 10 away from my goal) then started piling the pounds back on. I guess I kinda wasn't motivated anymore. Should I lose weight? And if I do, should I do weight training, or cardio? Anybody got a good routine? Btw, if anyone can tell me how to lose this fat on my arms so i can see my muscle below (which i know I have a good sized one, I can feel it), it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if u r asking, then you need to eat healthier and exercize more. You will live longer, healthier and happier if you feel good about how you look. Instead of trying to work out - find an active sport you are passionate about and dive in. You will be too busy t worry about eating and exercizing.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

You didnt say how tall you are. If you are 3ft tall then yes you are fat, If you are 6ft tall you are skinny. Have your parents to take you for a physical. Your doctor can give you a diet just for you.

Join a sport in school. This gets you active more so you are not home to eat and you are moving. The other benefit with school sports it gets you involved with the other kids. You will become good friends with your team mates.

You said you had muscle tone underneath your fat. Imagine once you are in a sport your body fat will drop and your muscles will show more!!

Track would be the sport with the best results!!

Good Luck!!

First, click on this link and use the teen BMI calculator. That should at least give you an idea of how much if any you need to lose. If you do need to lose I'd suggest going to the library and getting a copy of the South Beach Diet. It teaches you how to eat properly and you lose weight and keep it off. As for your arm, probably doing some exercises with weights would help.

Hi. For your own health I would encourage you to keep your weight within the normal range for your age and gender. I know how hard it can be. We girls spend most of our time worrying about being too fat. But the real secret is to be proud enough of yourself that your diet is not a fad, but a way of life that makes you happy. You want to change your life, not just what you eat. Start by believing that you are a great guy who deserves to be treated with respect. Then be the first to show that respect by making good food choices every day.
