I don't think that you need to be a religious person in order to be a good parent. The question is whether or not you strongly believe in your faith and if it makes you a better person.
I've met some people who claim to be "christian" and they are the meanest, nastiest people, while others are wonderful people. It's not the relationship with Jesus that makes you a good parent, it's who you are inside.
If being a good parent is important to you, then religion isn't necessary unless YOU truly feel strongly about it. Actively learning about parenting skills can help make you a better parent, and in turn, make your children better. You can do this by reading books and talking with other parents who you see are doing a good job.
I have a close friend whose mother married a very religious man when she (my friend) was a kid. She had a horrible childhood because of this man. Not to say that it is this way with all really religious families, but it is about the person and how they deal with the religion, not the religion itself.
I was not raised in a religious family. I am a good, honest person. I never got into drugs, I never shoplifted, I didn't hang out with the wrong crowd, I got good grades and I didn't have sex until I was 20 (and no, I'm not an ugly bookworm. I was actually voted my class' most talented in hs). My mother allowed us to choose our own religious paths. She exposed us to different ideas and allowed us to learn and make our own decisions on what we believed.
I hope that this helps!

I do not think that you need to clarify that it is just Jesus that you have a relationship with, just know that you have a heavenly father and a higher power. Just praying in general and be grateful for the good and the bad times, because most importantly the bad times make you remember the good times and be thankful.. Good luck raising a child is not easy... I am just starting now I have a four month old... so it is always going to be important to be positive.

A personal relationship with Jesus is a good thing...but does NOT guarantee raising better children. Be the best parent you can possibly be, keep lines of communication open, and don't get fanatical about religion and your kids will be fine

You're ofcourse going to get plenty of 'yes' answers. That's fine and all. I don't think that a good relationship is 'required' to raise a child right. Morals are universals as the different sects of religion could very well be called 'man made'. People know what is right and what is wrong and it's important to pass that message along to their kids. Be it through God or not, the message is still the same.

YES!
and I don't even go to church, or are christian, or muslim...
Having the idea that you have that kind of support, from god, will make you more calm, more balanced, you will be able to deal with things better. It's something nothing else can give in the world, the idea that you have your back covered-no matter what-and that's something every parent need.

Use the spell checker and why would you consider raising your children using a relationship that is based on evil, guilt and ignorance? Be a normal parent, childhood is tough enough without having to worry about christian lies, intimidation and fears.

Can you explain me how you can have with an dead or missing person a "personal" relationship????
You are so brainwashed? You can believe in him, ok ... but PERSONAL relationship with a person that does not exist anymore is impossible or you are necrophile ...
I hope that you don't brainwash your child in the same way as they brainwashed you ...
Give the kid a helping hand but don't manipulate it. Maybe it believe in Jesus/God or not. Let the kid decide it.

Faith of any kind, a spiritual life, is important to your well-being. It can only help you raise healthy children. Cramming your faith down their throats will backfire. Rejoice in your faith and the rest will follow

It depends. If you are acting on his teachings, and listening to what he tells you, it will certainly help.
I have also known people who's "relationship with Jesus" interferes with their parenting, because they put being involved with their church first.

Absolutly, Who better to have as a parental model of than God? If God created us,which he did, then he obviously knows how to raise us, and to help us raise our children.
