Just go to the toy store, or the toy aisle at Target/Walmart and pick out toys that you guys had when you were little. Barbies, candyland, twister and stuff, then get her an old fashioned style birthday cake with the little decorations on it. Make a card for her and promise a play date with the two of you in a local park! Go on the swings, the merry-go-round and the monkey bars, and just laugh until her 40yr old self is tired!!

We are at a serious disadvantage, having no idea what you did as kids, but I suppose we can guess. A jar of bubbles and a wand, jump rope, sidewalk chalk for hopscotch, jax, checkers, Candyland, Monopoly, a Barbie. Don't know if any of these are hitting the mark, but, if you have an antique store anywhere in your area, you could go browse around it. We have a huge one and when I go there it's like a trip down memory lane. You might see an item or two there that reminds you so much of your childhood together and would be really special to her. It would be worth a look. Sometimes I'll even see things like the exact cereal bowls or salt and pepper shakers my mom and grandma used, and it is such an odd feeling. You might find an old duplicate of a lunch box she once loved, or of what was her favorite doll or vinyl record. The department stores like Walmart sell nice album frames for the albums, so that could make a nice gift suitable for framing. Maybe you have an old photo of her dancing that you could frame in with it.

Why not e-mail relatives and friends and ask them to send old photos that include your sister and create a special birthday album. Usually family and friends were always around snapping shots at all the special occasions! This would be a gift from the heart of everyone!

How about putting a scrapbook/photo album of pictures of the two of you and giving that to her. I think that would be the nicest gift you could give to someone..that way it shows that your relationship with your sister is very special to you and it shows how much you really love her!!! :)

I am 38 so she is pretty close to my age. Do you remember the LEMON. It was a plastic lemon on the end of a rope that you skip too. This was one of my favorite toys. I am not sure if you can get one. I would look on vintage items on EBAY and you might find one. GOOD LUCK

Buy her a bicycle with a vintage look to it. Besides inducing fond memories, it will help her stay in shape as she enters middle-age.
