When my daughter was 9 I took her shooting the 1st time, she's 18 now, my son is 15 now, I took him shooting when he was 9 also. For both of them I taught them gun safety for years prior to going shooting. My son still loves to shoot, my daughter would rather go shopping, go figure......

I bought my son a .22 rifle at age six. You have to stress safety. Now he is 13 and he has shot my 12 GA. The last two years he has used it to deer hunt. I taught him safety and he has become a good shot, now I just need to get him to sit still long enough. He had an opportunity last year with a nice six point at about 25 yards, but he ended up tapping the barrel on the shooting rail of the two man ladder stand, that we use use for him to hunt from. That deer is probably still running.
For Christmas last year I bought him a crossbow and I am looking forward to getting him a compound, maybe next year. I am an avid bowhunter and look foward to teaching him, what I feel is the truest form of hunting.
But as long as he or she truly understand safety, they are not too young for a .22 rifle.

I would say 6 or so....They even make small guns for them to start learning on....I saw a 22. that was about 2 1/2 feet long...It was cute....I also have a 1 1/2 old son and I can't wait to get him started shooting, hunting, and fishing.

My started teaching me about 5 years old and each year I moved on to a little more powerful gun. Those are some of my best memories, shooting with my dad.

my son is 7 and got his first real gun for his 6th b-day. He has shot muzzleloaders, 410's, .22's. He has a Jr. rossi with the .22 and 410 changeable barrels. good investment for youngsters when teaching them to shoot. Cost about 120 bucks.

well they can go hunting at 12 but i think i started shooting .22 at like 10 so as long as they can think ahead a little bit then whenever you feel safe letting them hold a gun.
