I'm am so sick of this ask Dr. Sears epidemic. Don't these people know that there have been are so many "theories" about rasing children? I mean look at Froids believes back in the day--I'm sure as heck not taking advice from him! Why can't we just think for ourselves and do what we feel is right for our children? How can we be so ignorant to tihnk one person holds all the knowledge about parenting and we should follow it like a cult? Am I a bad parent because I don't agree with Dr. Sears?

I usually have a lot more to say. But on this one--just throw Dr. Sears away.

He is just another in a long line of "experts" starting with Dr. Spock--that often don't have much to say and what they do have to say is often actually hilarious when you think about it.

Dr. Sears comes from the line of thinking that children and parents are really equal people and should relate on the same plane. This is nonsense.

All people who write about child raising do have good points--but all should be read critically--just like we do with any person's opinion. Just because he is published and has been able to develop a pop following does not mean he should be treated like God--far from it.

I guess you didn't like the link I provided for you in an earlier question. Sorry! I do like most of that article. I don't agree with everything he says. No, you're not a bad parent because you don't agree with him. No one holds all of the knowledge about parenting. Many theorist give some bad advice on parenting! Supernanny and Dr. Phil included. Even doctors give bad advice at times. I feel, however, sometimes parents need a little help and it's good to have something to turn to. There are some great books out there (and some bad ones). You just need to weed out the crap. I do think that as a parent you need think for yourself and do what is best for your children.

I don't think your a bad parent. I think every mom and dad (for the most part) knows what is right for there kids. I believe that a good parent will end up having a good child. I think that is why there all those doctors and stuff now because, some parents neglect there kids and then they join gangs, and become murderers, and tag gang signes everywhere.
