This is mentioned in Rev. 20:14. read the verses before and after it to fully understand the topic. This is where all the unbelievers on judgment day are cast into the lake of fire to be consumed by flames. This is a final destruction and their soul is destroyed for all eternity. There is no burning forever and ever in hell like the churches teach. We lay in the ground and rot until resurrection day and either gain eternal life or are cast into the lake of fire for the second death.

The first death mankind faces is from inherited sin from Adam. Rom. 5:12

The second death is mentioned for those who deserve death on their own merits.

Matt 12:32, speaking against the holy spirit.
Matt 25:46 those who die at Armeggedon

Rev 20 those who at the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ again choose to follow Satan after he is released from the abyss.

Since the dead are conscienous of nothing (Eccl 9:5,10) and hades and grave are also thrown into the lake of fire, they will not be tormented in a literal sense, they will cease to exist.

I don't read bible much either. But my answer came from other source. The first death is obviously the separation of the body and the soul. The second death is when the soul gives up its conscious free will as it crosses the other side and his spirit( which is the same with ours) takes over. Otherwise, if the soul refuses to give up its conscious free will then this is the phenomena we have as ghost in haunted places.

The second death is seperation from God. It's found in the book of Revelation. Won't tell you where, read it for yourself! I'm really not trying to be smart, just that you really do need to read the Bible to understand yor religion more. Please do. Lots of love, edward_lmb.

That's when the unsaved people who are in the "holding place" of hell or hades or sheol, meaning the place of the dead, are resurrected to stand before the white throne of judgment. Then when they don't have the payment of faith in the blood of Jesus to cover their sin debt they are cast into the Lake of Fire for all eternity. That's the "second death".

Revelation 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.

Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." 6 And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."
