and they never had sex with the opposite sex, would they still be considered virgins?

I would think not, because this would be perverted sex that God would find abominable.

I think it depends on your definition of "sex".

FYI, it doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that virginity and abomination are mutually exclusive.

A logical population control........ No, they are no longer virgins because virginity also stands for innocence and purity. Purity of the mind is perverted and innocence have been corrupted. I would not say it is an abomination, just not what nature has intended it to do in terms of procreation. A direct reversal of the intended purpose driven life. Would God allow it? definitely not. But would God let two same gender fall in love? That is a choice where someone has to decide which he prefers to be and can he/she still be a better person out of it?

sex is sex no matter if you do it with a person of the opposite or same sex. No matter how little you do or how much - a sexual act in any way what so ever is sex. Therefore they would not be virgins.

A woman is considered a virgin until her hymen is ruptured, regardless if she is sleeping with a male or a female.

It's only preverted if sheep are used and only aganist their will. Once you have sex, you are no longer a virgin. No matter who or what you have it with.
