Format a disk (A:) using the My Computer right-click option, checking the boot disk choice.
"Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS startup disk."

Throw the disk in there. Turn off your computer. Turn on computer. When it says boot from CD, hit any button. Agree with all the liscencing (maybe F8) when it asks you to. Choose, install windows xp new installation (or something similar) Format using the NTFS on the hard drive. Let it do it's thing. It will reboot itself. When it does do not push anything. Let it continue. Later, it will ask you about how you want certain settings. It's always best to choose the defaults. It will also ask you to name the computer. This could take a while so ya might want to do something in the meantime. You will know when it;s done when it asks you change the appearance of the theme. Take the CD out and your'e done.

1. Double-click My Computer.
2. Right click on the drive you want to format, and click on "Format..." from the menu that shows up.
3. Go read a book or something. It'll take a long time.

Is this hard drive a boot up drive (the one Windows is installed at) if so you have to reinstall Windows.

Else, if the drive is just a data drive; right click on it in My Computer and choose format it.
