I'm sorry but I don't understand all the fuss about prayer in public schools as I never had a class where we talked about God or prayed and this was the late 60's and all of the 70's, when was this in the 1800's

After asking the question, I was told 1962, before my time, but you can not miss what you never had, and it's going to take a lot more than prayer to fix this society, first each person must come to grips that Christianity is not the answer, however resiting a prayer or poem of good nature with out a hidden agenda would be welcoming, drugs, money, poverty, and people keeping silent to the government about these issues is the true sin, when we the good suffer for the rotten that is a true sin, the trouble is the day cares are raising the children and they just do it for the money what value is that, mom & dad must work all the time to pay all the bills we have to keep the economies good

Do I think that not having actively-led prayer in schools has affected our society at all? No, not really, because it hasn't prevented anyone from praying, if that is their choice.

And do I think those who wish to pray will ever be prevented from doing so in American society? No. Everyone is free to worship as they wish.

There does need to be a distinction made in this question that while teachers (and depending on school rules, sometimes students) can not lead others in prayer, prayer is something that can still take place on the individual level regardless of where you are and what you believe. And that is as it should be.

Yes a Good affect on our society.

It haves solved some problems by not having prayer in school if you ask me. There are more religions then one and people have the right to choose their own religion or to not be religious at all. Too many people are out to just try to convert everyone to their religion and that causes alot of problems. So i think its good that its not allowed in schools.

personnaly i went to a private school so on some of the days we prayed. last year and this year i am going to public school and they are very different. i think that not having prayer in PUBLIC school is good because not everyone is the same religion. this might have affected our society somewhat but it is good that in public school nobody is forcing a different religion on you. most people may be cristian but that doesn't mean it has chnged general society at all. THERE IS A SEPERATION OF CHURCH(religion) AND STATE.

you'll get a lot of yes' from the Christians, but truth is, morality begins at home, school prayer wouldn't be enough on its own to affect society. Red Herring.

I have to agree with a lot of the other posters. There are just too many religions to cover when discussing prayer in school. I think no matter how it was practiced, a religious group would feel left out.

It has affected our society greatly. But it did not stand alone, so that effect cannot be measured by just the loss of prayer. Other factors, changing society and values, etc., must also be taken into account.

I feel that not having prayer in school has bettered our society in the fact that not everyone is a Christian and forcing Christian beliefs (i.e. praying in the name of Jesus) is going against the Constitution and is flat out the wrong thing to do.

I believe that breaking away from Biblical principle's period has affected our society.. Not just prayer in school.

In our house, our discipline and parenting guidelines are based off what the Bible tells us. It is biblical to discipline your child. It is Biblical to spank your child. (Before I get a whole bunch of people jumping on me about this. There is a difference between spanking and abusing.) Proverbs 20:30 says " The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly." Proverbs 13:24 says" He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."

It comes down to the fact that families are not the same that they used to be. If you did wrong as a child, you were punished. If you were at a neighbor or friends house, not only did they punish you themselves, but you got it again when you got home. Anymore, our society in general has no consequences for their actions.

For questioner???? (two postings above mine) I take it you are still in school based off what you said so I am going to explain Seperation of Church and State. Seperation of Church and State was implemented so that our government could not tell us what religion we had to be. If we wanted to be christian, catholic, atheist, agnostic, etc. we could without fear of severe punishment from the government. It was never meant to say that we could not have prayer or mention of God in school.

Yes, gives kids more time to learn and be educated. Prayer is a distraction. Prayer in school would be no different then having a practice voodoo session.
