It is an onion-y flavored herb. It's great freshly snipped into fried potatoes or sour cream dips, among other things. It grows in hollow green shoots, very easy to grow, and flavorful. You can also buy it dried.

it is similar to a green onion but you only use the tops when planted out side and you just snip the green off it will spread and grow for years and spread....basically used for garnish...the most common is sour cream and chives......if chives are not availible many people use the green onion tops in place of...

Something like the green part of a green onion -- milder, though, and very pleasant tasting. If you like green onions, then the chive cream cheese ought to be just fine.
