Is Canada going the same way as US in school gun crime? My perception of Canada was of a relatively safe country... especially on its gun controls.

Well all us Canadians are blaming the Americans for handguns being in our country. It is where a majority of the handguns come from. We use to live in a peaceful nation, but over the years I have seen a steady decline in our values as more and more of us adopt the American way of life. I myself live close to Detroit and if I wanted a gun, I could have it in 3 hours tops. But I'm not trying to blame anyone here except for the folks that grab those guns and use them. Someday I hope we can all get away from that and live once again in peace. Free of guns, free of hatred for one another. As for our gun laws, they are not tough enough sadly to say.

Canada is a relatively safe country..even when it comes to its gun control. It's quite unfortunate see what happened at Dawson College in Montreal...and i am from Montreal and I did go to Dawson when i went to college. People get guns for anywhere and everywhere. No one is safe.

It is a relatively safe country. Violence and crazy people are everywhere. Gun control is pretty good, but anything can make it through nowadays. We obviously need a tighter grip on it.
Kudos to the Montreal police, for rushing in and taking control of the situation right away.

Gun control is a political band-aid used to control the law abiding. The criminal, regardless of laws will always find a way to commit mayhem and crime.

It is easier to pass restriction on people who obey the laws then on criminal who will ignore the laws.

It is easier to herd sheep then it is to herd wolves.

Overall, I think tight gun control laws make a society safer, less fear driven, and better off for all. However, you cannot stop infrequent episodes by mad men. Australia holds the unprestigious record of having the highest number of shootings by a lone gunman. Excellent claim to fame that one. Therefore you can't prevent everything by eliminating the dangerous item (ie 9-11 box cutters), however, by controlling gun ownership you allow for a more co-herent country.

Tragic.

Canada has VERY strict gun controls...BUT you can never stop the individual loony doing something barbaric like this.

Best wishes to all innocents involved & God bless Canada!

It just goes to show you that gun control only takes the guns away from the law abiding citizen. The criminals don`t listen to new laws because they are CRIMINALS!!

Gun control means hitting your target!!
