at all. The school is involved very much in trying to help but we are all kinda lost. He seems to be in a power struggle with the teacher and will not listen at all. Any ideas how to get him back on the right track and get the education he deserves?????

You may just have to back off him for awhile and let him do nothing. After all, he's probably been working really hard since starting school [j/k] to 'fit in' and do what everyone wants. It's hard for them to try and try and always seem to fail.
He's probably sick of trying!

Plus I doubt he's happy about summer freedom coming to an end.

Tell him that if he wants to he can just sit there, by himself, all year. And nobody will bother him. It's ok.

Chances are, once the pressure is off him to 'perform' he will move to an activity that he enjoys in his own time.

Nobody likes to be controlled, especially ADHD kids!

Make sure he gets enough sleep.

Often children with a diagnosis of ADHD actually have a co-incidence of a sleep disorder. I would have him checked out if it was my kid.

If your child is smart (as often these children are) the class may be boring to him. If you have a good relationship you may be able to explain to him other things you can learn at school besides just paying attention. (like people watching)

Then supliment his school learning with at home "field trips" like trips to the firehouse, or to see how newspapers are printed.

Acupuncture works in just a few treatments.Would he be open to trying something like that? The needles don't really hurt , you can barely feel them.He obviously needs something extra to help him deal with his situation and acupuncture is very , very calming to the nervous system.Once he's feeling better the rest will fall into place.

When a child with ADHD is overwhelmed by tasks they may just shut everything out which is a protective move. A child is overwhelmed when the tasks are not broken down into small steps, the child is not dumb but trying to cope. I have a young man living with me because his father just couldn't deal with it. Will does things before he thinks he gets overwhelmed but we are doing well as I grew up with ADD. Just know your child is not "being bad" but is trying to deal with life.

well it sounds like he is strong willed and bored. have you tried something new like soduko puzzles or something that he can do while the teacher is basically just going on and on about what ever. give him as much stimulation he can handle at one time basically.
