ohh this will sound gross, but it is true. Baby animals are "stimulated" to go potty, when momma licks their behinds. At the same time, mom is able to clean waste as soon as it occurs. Gross out right? But WAIT!!! do not lick...uck, that would be bad. Use a soft wet cloth, and wipe the area, in a cat-licking fashion, until she goes. Do this several times a day, and you probably won't have to do it long, if she really is 6 weeks old. Also, if she is hungry still, once she poo's check for worms. If you see some, and know what kind they are, get appropriate kitten wormer, and UAD., or take to a vet, for best worm analysis.

Well, Dyma is absolutely right about the warm cloth and stimulating the area in very young kittens. And she may be younger than 6 weeks. Have you given her a litter box that she can easily find? I would confine her to one room with fresh water and her litter box. She may not know where it is..and be going somewhere else.Do that right away so you can see if she is urinating also. Where did you get her? A shelter ? From the mother cat ? If she was just taken from the mother, she doesn't know how to eat yet. She can have some instant oatmeal mixed to a kind of thin consistency with luke warm milk or "kitten milk" purchased in the pet store or some supermarkets in the pet food isle. I think she's too young for a can of food. You could slowly get her used to canned food after she learns to eat oatmeal. Then you could try mixing 1 tlbsp. with it at first. But if you confine her to the cat box room, keep an eye on her and spend alot of time there with her, Give her something comfortable to sleep on and please NEVER forget to leave fresh water down at all times. If you are sure she hasn't used the catbox by tomorrow morning, I would get her to a vet asap. Good luck. And depending where you got her from, you could ask questions of the previous owners.

She is a very young kitten. If she were still with her mama, she would be nursing, and the milk is very easy to digest and moves through a kitten fairly quickly. Now that she is strictly on solid food, her system may need some time to adjust.

Make sure she has fresh water to drink at all times. Most kitties are what are called "free feeders". You can let them eat however much they want because they will stop when they are full. They seem to eat an awful lot because they are growing.

For some good guidelines as to how much and what she should be eating, click on the link below. Good luck!

I am glad you are giving her canned meat. That is the best diet for a kitten who has just been weaned. She should however still be with her mother and able to nurse from her.

If she ate the canned food she has been well-fed and hydrated from the moisture in the meat, so there should be some action from her hind end in a hour or so. Give her a few hours before offering her more food. She will be very hungry and need a lot of food right now so don't deprive her, just give her some time to digest the food properly.

if your baby kitten does not pass any bowel movement withint he next 24 hours, take her/him to the vet PRONTO, as something might be wrong. However, if it is 6 weeks old, it is probably just nervous about the new environment-give it lots of love and gentle affection, play with it (this activity will also help 'jog' the need to use the restroom). Also, it may not be fully weened yet, which means the cries could be asking for milk-don't give her dairy cow milkt hough-many pet stores and even some general stores carry cat specific milk, such as Cat-Sip, which is fortified with Taurine and other essencial vitamins and minerals. Good luck to you and your kitty.

try sticking her in the litter box every 20 min. or so and if she doesn't go in another six hours than take a warm moist cloth or cotton ball and wipe her genitals. this will stimulate her to go. this is what the mother cat does after feeding when their little. if she still doesn't go then contact your vet. offer her a bowl of dry kitten food. keep the wet down to half a can twice a day and make sure its kitten food not cat food which does not provide all the nutrients she needs to grow into a healthy cat. best of luck

She ate the whole can? Was it just a little can like a fancy feast, she might be hungry. If it was a bigger can like 9lives, she probably is lonely for mom and brother and sisters. I'm fostering kittens right now. I have four and they share a can between them three times a day. Supply her with the cat box, show her the cat box and dig with her claw, you helping, to show her. She'll use it as long as she knows it is there. She's probably lonely, cuddle her. Enjoy your new kitten.

My kitty had similar problems. Turns out he wasn't adjusting to the new food very well. The vet put him on a special food....Hills Science Diet....for cats with allergies and sensitive GI tracts. The problem cleared up within a few days and we haven't had a problem since. He also started acting more playful after that, like maybe he really didn't feel good when his problem was acting up. A huge change in this cat.

it's true kittens are stimulated by their mommy's but at six weeks it should be going on it's own. i would give it a little time.
put the kit in the litter pan once or twice an hour so it knows where to go. don't force it to stay. just put it in and let it go from there. make sure you give it lots of fresh, room temp water also. cold water can give a kit cramps. play a lot so the kit moves a lot and gets things inside moving. lol.
kittens will eat and eat and eat and eat. they will eat till they throw up. so if the kits still meowing after eating a good portion then it's not really still hungry. don't feed it a whole can of food that's way to much and can make it harder for the kit to go poo because it will bind it up. ie, constipate.
you should start mixing hard food in with the wet food right about now. wet food is not good for a cats teeth. they need hard food to help keep teeth clean.
only give about a quarter of a can if its 5.5 ounces, 2-3 times a day. you can try to stimulate it to go poo if it doesn't go in say a day or two. make sure you look at the poo to check for worms unless its already been dewormed.
if you don't know a lot about kits you should talk to a vet. your kit will need shots, flea drops, ears need to be checked for mites and other health essentials need to be looked into. like feline luekemia and distemper. these are the two leading causes of death in felines. especially outside cats.
don't play rough with your hands. the kit will grow up thinking its ok to attack anyone it pleases. play a lot with toys and cuddle a lot. also talk to your kit. they enjoy it. don't leave stringy toy's laying around. they are dangerous. put them away when your not there using them. use balls and such for the kit when it plays alone.
well thats all i can think of for now.
good luck with your new kitten. my daughter just adopted two from a shelter and is using her own allowance to pay. she's nine. thats 70 dollars! she's been waiting 3 years to get her kit's and has done a lot of research on how to care for them.
have fun with yours, i know we will with ours. lol.
ps. just wanted to add, make sure your using kitten food and not adult cat food.
enjoy your little cheeto.

A whole can of cat food is too much. And what makes you say she's still hungry. I think she's just needy. Babies cry all the time, human as well as animal. Cuddle her and play with her. Don't worry that she hasn't had a bowel movement yet, it'll come in time. And remember, babies sleep alot, so don't worry about that either.
