When I got my computer it came with Windows 2000. I went and got Windows XP Home Edition and put it on my computer. It runs a lot slower now, and I was curious how can I remove the Windows 2000 program, so my computer will go a little faster. On a side note, when I turn on my computer it promts me to choose if I want to open with Windows 2000 or Windows XP? I donn't know if that is some usefull information for help but I thought I should put it in there just in case.

You will NOT speed up the PC by getting rid of 2K. Since 2K is now simply a set of unused files, it means nothing to how the PC runs.

To stop the question at bootup, open boot.ini and delete the line containing the "Windows 2000" entry. It should then look something like:
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

You can just go into the drive with the OS [c:] and delete the entire folder that runs 2K.

But you BETTER get it right!!! Get rid of the wrong one & XP will not be there anymore. When you installed XP it asked you what the directory was you wanted to use - Do NOT delete that!!

Windows 2000 has nothing to do with your system running too slow! You probably created another partition and windows xp is on this! Windows XP is slower than 2000 to begin with! Reformat your drive and install XP if you bought the full version.
