I am having difficulty picking a lens, I would like to know if anyone owns one or both of these can tell me which they prefer. I am looking at the:
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras
or
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

I am trying to weigh apature against zoom.

This is one for the 'Canon SLR Lens Talk' forum at dpreview. This exact question has been asked and answered there quite a few times... with no clear winner. Here's a link to one of those threads: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readfl...
That thread links to 3 others, and if you're still undecided, you can use the search function to find even more.
I use Nikon myself. For what it's worth, my main lens is their 17-55mm f/2.8, which I use at f/2.8 quite a lot. Then again, I find that even the limited 17-55mm zoom range covers about 80% of my needs.

i assume which you have the now well-known 'Starter ' lens, 17-fifty 5. ok so now bypass out and use it, get to understand your digicam, be certain what you opt to image, how you may gain the outcomes which you particularly choose, and then in case you elect yet another lens be certain what lens you elect. Then purchase it, yet first discover out what you elect.

To answer this question, it would be very helpful to know what is your favourite type of photography you like to do eg do you like to do candid portraits or landscapes or night shots or still life? How do you like to shoot eg almost always with a tripod for maximum depth of field or hand held? If you can answer this question, it will be easier to decide whether aperture of focal length is the primary consideration.

I totally understand weighing aperture vs zoom, but i can tell you that PERSONALLY, I would find the 24-105 MUCH more versatile and therefore more useful. :) ENJOY
