I get so aggravated when people say that the only thing that will help is drugs....do not listen to those people. Drugs only add into more side effects.
As for a vegan diet helping..it cant hurt.
But there are also some other things you can try as well
echinachia and golden seal are good for sinus and allergies.
also increase the amount of water you drink. The average amount you should drink each day is 64 oz..that's just 2 of the 1 liter bottles a day...but to put a push on the congestion drink some more than that. It thins down the mucus and causes less congestion.
GOOD LUCK

I think it will definately do your body good, but do it gradually, not all at once. And make sure you get your protien from other sources i.e Soya producs/tofu.
I am a vegan and not only are most of my health problems gone, I no longer break out on my facial area, have as many liver problems, have gallbladder problems or intestinal traght problems.
I suggest before you do this on your own, to go see a naturopathic practitioner in your area (a doctor of natural medicince) since they specialize in this sort of area, basically well being for yourself.
Also, over the counter de-congestiants, please stay away from those, they just supress the symptoms as opposed to actually clearing out the ROOT of what is causing your congestion. That is why I suggest seeing a naturopath, so they will locate what is causing the problem, and get rid of it, instead of just taking away the symptoms of what is making you congested.
And they also, might just have some natural supplements you may be able to take to help clear out your mucus membranes, without having to become a vegan.

I don't know about becoming a vegan, but avoid all milk products. They thicken mucus and increase congestion

It is never a good idea to completely cut a food group from your diet. It is vital to proper health to include every food group in order to recieve certain vitamins and minerals from each that some vegan diets cannot supply. Just visit your doctor and I am sure that he will give some great advice as to how to clear up congestion without having to change your entire diet.

Are eatting something that is causing the mucus membranes? and if you are are you possible that is the case?
I seriously doubt its your eatting habits that are causing it. Do you smoke or around alot of second hand smoke? Thats one possibility

No...and more than that nothing will help the congestion you already have, other than traditional over the counter decongestants.
Good luck and feel better soon.
