They've already proved through th ecourt that they have no regard for the safety of others.. so would it not be more appropriate (acknowledging that ban periods are finite and not total) for an offender to be allowed wheels back for the purpose of making his route to work acceptable but only allowed th emost basic of power bands to drive. Ths would also be perfectly feasible for sales reps as even a 1,000cc car will make it to 70mph after only a few more seconds than a 2.3litre car would.
I cant see how a drink driver could argue that this condition was unreasonable?.

No

They should be banned from drinking, and subject to checks at any time, not just when driving,
A complete 3 year Drinking Ban and a month prison every time they are caught over the Limit.
I am serious.
Equally there really is sod all difference in prformance of a 1000 cc car and a 3 litre on todays crowded roads and a good 970 cc cooper S must be one of the greatest total nutters cars known to man with a 9000 rpm rev limit, no low down torque and almost no brakes. The little daihatsu and suzukis are nearly as mad and just encourage the driver to thrash them all the time, which is just what you dont want when someone is just returning to the road.
Make em drive Non Turbo Diesel now that is an idea

Why not - certainly not an unreasonable proposition. Mind you having studied law and viewed recent sentences with growing despair, I am slowly coming to the conclusion, that the wisdom of the average citizen is never considered. I believe at least in Scotland, you would be as well to kill your enemy than say rob a bank, as your sentence would end up lighter. There is a school of thought, that no drink at all is the line to be drawn and that would be that FOR ALL OF US INCLUDING CELEBS AND POLITICIANS and those relying on cars for work. Only my opinion though and I am a boozer who has in the past been guilty of taking my car when over the limit, many years ago but I could have killed somebody.

I am of the view that anyone convicted of drink driving should be banned for life and the alcohol limit should be reduced to zero.

My ex brother-in law and his wife were nearly killed by a drunk driver who had no tax, no licence or insurance. He got a £500 fine and a 3 year driving ban after he had already been banned for drink driving previously.

The scum bag should have gone to gaol for 10 years.

My brother- in -law's car was written off in the accident but because the scum-bag was unemployed, he didn't get any compensation. He had to finish paying for a car that was useless.

They are given the option of having a special device (which they pay for) attached to the ignition of the car. They blow in it like a breathalizer and if they haven't had anything to drink then the car will crank.....otherwise, it won't.

i don't see how this could help anything. a 1500 lb. car going 70 and hitting a pedestrian would still be disastrous. how about we do like they do in germany? one dui and you will NEVER drive again.
