manufacturers add nuts for texture and flavor, however u really need to check all ingrediates to make sure there is nothing u could be allergic too

They don't. The problem is usually one of two things, nut oils, in the food, or the food is produced in an environment where foods containing nuts are produced, therefore, the foods can cross contaminate, leaving nut traces in the otherwise nut free food.

The problem is basically companies don't want to be sued because of the minutest nut trace, and also because many cannot be bothered to clean their machines properly.

They are cheap and popular and taste lovely. And they have to say there MAY be nuts in their products, as some people are violently allergic to them, and would claim compensation as sure as a cat's a hairy beast, if they found out there were undisclosed nuts in a recipe
