Aside from voting (and campaign funds), what is the most effective way to communicate with Congress? Is it a written letter, an e-mail, a fax, a phone call, a personal visit, or something else?

And is it better to contact your own congresspeople even though they're not on a committee related to what you're concerned about?

Finally, is it a better idea to just send one letter (or e-mail or fax, etc.) or to "bombard" them with letters AND e-mails AND faxes, etc.? I would assume the latter, but I want to hear your opinion.

I doubt it would be with a personal visit. If you ever get the chance, go sit in a session of the House or Senate at work. What you will see is one person at the podium, a few aides running back and forth, some people like yourself in the spectator gallery, and ABSOLUTELY no one on the floor.

I was aghast! Unfortunately, C-Span doesn't show you how empty the chambers are. When a vote is called, the aides run and round up our Reps and Senators, but until then you won't see anyone. I would try bombarding. You will then end up on the watch list, and all your emails will be read by the feds!

i have been writing them for years. they read very little of what comes in and none of what could be "bulk."

this works best: hand-written letter with hand-addressed envelope. real, not bulk stamp. keep letter short, 2, max 3 paragraphs and only ONE question or subject per letter.
do not try to impress with big words. just plain, simple statements and/or questions.

it does not have to be formal. keep it like you were writing an acquaintance. but do not call them bill or mary or such.

their staff see everything first and you have to get through them and they keep most from getting through.

this is what i do today and i am 63 y/o and it works as well as anything i have tried.

best of luck, you will need it.

I was told to keep my opinions to myself right before getting my nose busted. Now I only give facts or I supposes's. My wife asks me all the time if I love her and I always tell her "I suppose." The best way I know to communicate with somebody is face to face. Run for corngress and you too can ignore people if you want to. I call them corngress because they need corn for their pork.

Learn from little children playing computer games with ghost stories on planet earth.
The dirty old men in office should learn how to play tic, tac, toe in trying to solve the problems on planet earth.
Must try to learn how to sing songs on planet earth.
Only then will get the feeling on what went wrong out there on planet earth.

really very simple, although implementaion takes a bit of doing. round up 100,000 folks and go see him/her personally. this method often has positive results.

edit>>>oh yeah, try to get everyone to email them, both before the "meeting," and after. documentation is a government mainstay.

I read somewhere that the only way to get through to politicians is through publicity, through the press. Only then will they get the message. It's the only way narcissists can be communicated to: put their fragile reputation on the line.

He famously used radio as a mass media communique device. He all started the "hearth area chats" weekly radio addresses that presidents nonetheless do. They were fairly influential.
