Bacteria create acid that causes tooth decay and periodontal disease. A dental hygienist removes the bacteria that create the acid. Voila. Chemistry.
Also, there are various rinses or fluoride used on the teeth by a dental hygienist, as well as bonded resin sealants.
That's a start, but you'll have to do some of your own research on the topic. I've got to go watch Rockstar!

There are many many chemicals used in a dental office. If you do not know what kinds of chemicals can be stored together you could cause a major problem.That is just one way that chem is important to Dental Hygienists.
