So I went in today for my 6 weeks exam after having my baby. I've still been bleeding and it's a big concern for me. And I was also feeling quite ill with stomach and back pains and dizziness. So I tell my doctor all of these things. And while talking with him I get emotional and start to cry a little. So he keeps asking me if I'm depressed. No, I'm not depressed, I'm concerned and I don't feel well. After examining my uterus he looks at my back and says to me "we need to get you exercising." Like I don't know I'm fat, I just had a baby and I'm still 55 pounds overweight from never losing from my last two pregnancies. Then he orders a urine test to check for a bladder infection. Once that comes out normal he sends me home. I still feel like crap and he hasn't found out what's wrong with me, but he's sending me home? Not to mention that he is constantly calling me Amy or by my daughters name. Am I being a hypochondriac? Or should he have checked more than that?

No, you are not being a hypochondriac. If you are still bleeding after 6 weeks, and are feeling ill, as the very least he needs to run a CBC to be sure you aren't anemic.

Do yourself a favor and run to a local clinic - tell them every symptom and tell them you feel ill. Make them run some blood work. Insist on it, remember you are a paying consumer and are not asking for anything unreasonable.

Also, don't be too quick to dismiss the fact you may also be depressed, so you may have two things going on. If you see another doctor, you will be reassured and he/she may find something that can help.

Any time you feel uncomfortable with a doctor, you should see another one (perferably not in the same physicians office). You are NOT a hypochondriac to feel a bit "under the weather" after having a baby. You should know from having the other ones, there is a lot of hormones RAGING through your body... post partum blues maybe coming into play here also. But insist on a doctor that will listen to your concerns. good luck and congratulations !!

I don't know that he should have checked other things, but if you're not comfortable with your doctor, switch. Especially if he can't remember your name. You should trust your doctor, and it sounds like you don't. Whether or not there is actually anything physically wrong, you have the right to expect your doctor to take your concerns seriously. You will get much better care if you find someone you trust.

You could be suffering from depression. It can cause unexplained pain and bleeding. If you don't feel confident in his answers I would go see another doctor. There are written tests the doctor can give you to check for depression, if nothing physical is causing your problems.

without a second thought I would make an appointment as soon as I can to another OBGYN. This doc sounds too laid back about the situation. If you got another opionin then you will feel better and if there is something else you will be totally glad you went.

I can't answer any of the medical stuff, but I can say this -
unless you have insurance issues where you can't change
doctors and I find that highly unlikely - change doctors ASAP.
Check with your family, friends, internet for reccommendations.
God bless doctors and all the good they do, but the fact is
all doctors are not created equal.
