I'm 5 months pregnant and currently have a very active 13 month old. I will be nursing my baby again... for at least 12 months... and know it will be somewhat difficult with an active toddler. I'm considering buying/making a sling/carrier/wrap. I don't think I want to use those carriers like the hip hammock, etc... since I've tried a few and they're just not comfortable. I'm pretty thin.. and the straps dig into my bones. I need a carrier that will work very well especially for nursing. I'd like to hear from mothers who have actually used one (please no advice from friends of friends... you can't possibly know about their ease of use or comfort unless you've had one strapped to you for months on end).
Money is no object as I'm willing to pay for mine & baby's comfort... though I would prefer to keep it low. I'm very capable of making one... just want to know which one's the best. Thanks!

I had the same problem, I am quite slim and found that most of the sling/carriers were just too darn big! (You know, new mothers aren't ALWAYS huge!!)

I found a really wonderful Australian product (I am from Australia) that I am sure you can order over the internet (I just checked, you can!). It is called the 'Comfy Carry' and I tell you what, it is called that for a reason! It is made by a company called 'Cairns Midwifery'.

This is sooooo simnple it is not funny. One latch/clip on your shoulder. That's it. And it is sooooooo easy to adjust even if you are slim (like myself). You simply twist the back strap over itself to shorten the sling, and because it sits between your shoulder blades down your back it is sooooooooo comfortable!!

As a bonus, the colours/pattern are gorgeous. This not essential, I know, but I had a beautiful blue and green one with such a lovely hibiscus print on it. It was just such a breathe of fresh air from the standard, navy blue/black designs that you see EVERYWHERE.

Just to reassure, I used this (not a friend of a friend....) I used it for nursing, walking, soothing, I used it for everything! It was absolutely invaluable, and I have come to buy one for every friend of mine expecting!

Good luck with everything, hope this info has helped :)

I used the sling till my baby was almost 1.5 years old. i found it really useful when she was sleeping, or sitting up and when I had to go to do chores, eat, etc. I really enjoyed having her body snuggled up in the sling against me. The one I had was an ergonomic type that had padding at the shoulder so it would not dig into the bones. it was really comfortable. I recently gave it away so I am unable to tell you the brand name. Good luck.

I read Loosey Goosey's answer, and that is the type of padded sling I used. Its not the same brand, but its exactly the same ergonomic design. I'd definitely recommend that too. It was the most comfy and the best.

I loved the Baby Bjorn Sport Carrier..nothing beats it...Well worth the price! Some parents and babies prefer a sling..I did not like it because I liked my baby in front of me and up close. Good luck!
