After the autopsy, the organs are placed in a small sack, and set back inside the sternum.
The Y incision is then stitched up.
Most organs are weighed, and checked for inconsistencies before hand.

There are many kinds of autopsies-complete, where they remove ALL organs, then partial autopsies where select organs are removed.

Most of the time whatever organ/s were removed, are returned with the body. Parts of organs may be kept for indepth testing.

After the post mortem exam, the organs are placed in a plastic bag and returned with the body. An embalmer will the treat the organs with cavity fluid before suturing.

A lot of that depends on what the person wanted. When my dad died, he had signed his organ donor thing on the back of his drivers license. They were able to use several of his organs, since he was very healthy when he died. If a person is not a willing organ donor the parts are all put back. Generally, where they should go, but not secured in place, just "put in" there. I think everyone should donate any rgans they can, though. It's not like you'll be needing it anymore... And now, a part of my dad is still alive out there. He saved lives by losing his.

Watch CSI :-)
But, no, not all are put back. That's why they have bio-hazard litter bags for organs that are usually cremated afterwards.
