not long ago Bush announced , that legal status would be granted to those who were fighting in Iraq and were not legal ressidents of the USA . their families will also be included .

does anyone knows how many people are we talking about ???

and why is it that the militar contributions of undocumented immigrants are usually forgotten ( i am talking about the immigrants as a whole ) but whenever someone who is not legal does something bad everyone jumps up and says "ohhh God those ilegals are terrible "

note: when i say everyone i do not mean everyone but mostly xenophobics and racists .

Thank you for posting this question.I am also sick and tired of how immigrants are portrayed on tv.And your right that the media only shows the bad ones and doesn't even mention the good ones. And yet whenever anti illegals debate the reason why the border should be secured and illegals should be deported they always use the age old line "Well my son didn't go to Iraq so his country could be invaded by outsiders".Yet they don't stop to think that some of those "outsiders" are watching their childrens, husbands, fathers and daughters tushes. And personally since my own cousin is one of these illegals who joined the military and now is in Iraq in order to get him and his familie;s citizenship I find offensive. And also find it scary to think that maybe some of the people that he depends on to watch his back think like most of these anti illegals think and look at him and just see another "illegal beaner".once again thanks for asking this question.

I don't know how many people we are talking about in this case. I think the reason why the xenophobes and the racists jump up and say "ohhh God those illegals are terrible" is because they now have some 'proof' to back up their ignorant little claims. The only person I heard about whose military contribution to the Iraq war was featured in the news was Christian Menchaca and that was because he was found dead from an either an attack against them or a roadside bomb.

I agree with you 100%. To some point I dont blame these Racist, xenophobics people here because thats what the media feeds them on tv. all the time. They sure dont put on tv. the undocumented immigrants rebuilding New Orleans, working the fields, fighting in Iraq, etc. They just show them being chased throughout the desert and being handcuffed as well. They show just the bad apples in a basket instead of the good ones.

I understand that Bush signed a Presidential Order so that all who are fighting in Iraq were eligible, on day one of that duty, for citizenship.

I don't think it specifically applies to family, but once they are citizens presumably they can sponsor family.

Others had talked about passing the provision with family in an immigration law overhaul, but as you know that went nowhere.

I understand that there aren't all that many undocumented in the military (perhaps because they become citizens?) but I do know there are some.

It isn't forgotten but those are looked at as are the legals, in a class distinct from the run of the mill illegals who are using health care and draining education funds WITHOUT permission to be here.

We have laws. They are supposed to be enforced, and we are furious with our government for not doing so.

lets see, if there were 1000 illegal immigrants in the army who will be granted a legal status, times 25 for their family members...OMG! THAT'S LIKE 25,000 PEOPLE! But it's more than that. Geez, they only need one anchor baby, or at least use a condom! A lot of illegal immigrants have WAAAY too many babies. I saw a girl in her early 20s with a 2 year old. I heard her talking to another girl who asked, "is that your baby?" and you know what she said? "no, that's my grandbaby" WHOA!
