Much of the Renaissance art was rubenesque. In fact, Ruben, the aritst who's art inspired the word 'rubenesque' was from the Renaissance period.

Rubenesque art portrays the human body as 'ample', especially the female form.

Peter Paul Rubens born 1577 died 1640 The Flemish Baroque era. Look at examples of Ruben's art work. Most art work 1600 to 1700 in the style of Ruben is called Rubenesque.

Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish Baroque artist noted for paintings of chubby women. Rubensesque art copies his style, especially the fat ladies. Such figures aren't stylish now.

17th Century, women who are "pleasantly plump" or "delightfully plump" are often referred to as Rubenesque. The women he painted were not anorexic but HEALTHY!
