Yes there is definitely something wrong and it wont just go away by itself. Your cat could have parasites/worms, cociddia, or giardia. Is the poop very soft/diarrhea? It could also just be stress and a sudden change of food that has irritated the intestine. My guess would be a bad case of worms which is most common if your cat goes outside or has fleas.
Either way you need to take your cat to the vet with a stool sample if you can right away. They will put him on meds for any of the problems listed above and your cat will feel much better.

Check out this website for more info on the types of worms cats can get:

HI there...there are many possible reasons why kitties have bloody stools. It could be parasites (various types of worms), bacterial (cociddia, giardia), it could be as simple as the type of food the cat is eating or recently was switched suddenly to a new food, however usually there's diarrhea involved when this happens. A vet will have to conduct a fecal (poop) examination to better determine what is the outlying cause of the blood and respectively will treat with the appropriate antibiotics.

Please consider arranging an appointment to see a vet as left untreated this could present serious health risk to your kitty. During your appointment be sure to ask what side effect should you be aware of if the cat will be treated with medication. Some medications cause drowsiness, diarrhea, etc. Ask how to best approach these side effects so you don't panic and react as instructed by the vet.

I have two cats, brother and sister, they are 12 years old and the boy has nearly always had blood in his poop.
He has been to the vets countless times, and cost me an arm and a leg!

Every treatment the vet has prescribed or suggested, has been tried and has failed, he still leaves blood.
He appears to be healthy, loving and playful and it doesn't appear to affect him at all.

Neither of the cats go out, or want to go out , but he is a very nervous cat, and I believe that may have something to do with it.
He has obviously been check for all the usual things like gall stones, bladder infections, thyroid glands.
He has also been on a diet, (and still is,) of food specially made for sensitive stomachs, which does improve the situation a bit

I think, and so does his vet, that although he is a nervous cat the most likely cause is the cat form of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is quite common in humans.

The intestinal internal surfaces are normally coated with a layer of blood, and sufferers of this syndrome expel this coating.
Are his poops very soft and very smelly too?

I live in the UK and a blood test alone costs £100. I would advise you not to go with exploratory surgery as it is unnecessary and very expensive!

The same thing happend to my cat. Cats get parasites in there colon. This is deffinatly not a good thing but take her to the vet as soon as possible. She needs and antibotic right away. Dont worry the medicine is not very expensive at all. The doctor will most definatly do a stool sample. Please bring her to the vet though, because if not treated this could become extremely bad. If there is blood in her stool then it is already pretty bad.

Is there something wrong with YOU if there's blood in your poop? Of course. Sometimes it's as easy as hemmorhoids for us.....in cats, the most likely culprit is intestinal parasites, but there are other causes. Get the cat to the vet as soon as humanly possibly.

Yeah my cat suffers from this too!
You have to take him to the vet cause it can be very painful for the little thing!
It's kind of like stones in their bowels. Like our kidney stones? He will probably need a special type of food like Ecanuba which has the right PH level so his little body won't let this happen!
Poor kitty!
Hope he gets better!!!
