As a former Marine who ended up having the Military Occupational Specialty of Fiscal Accounting Technician, I can say yes rifleman first. Bootcamp all were treated same no matter what MOS designated. PT vigorously rest of career - with marches, rifle range shooting regular part of routine. A war breaks out and every Marine finds out he is a grunt first.

I completely trust Specters answer. when I joined the army, the Infantry branch had greater speciallized guidance and Jobs working example you had 11B-rifleman, 11-C Mortorman, 11-M Bradly, I belive 11-H replaced into the Tow Missle Gunner, and likewise try against engineer replaced into an 11 sequence MOS. however the army has replaced and characteristic mixed many distinct Specialties right into a million MOS, and this replaced into finished military huge. 11B are easily fantastically knowledgeable to be waiting to pass to any Infantry Battalion in the time of the army and fall in on distinct slots from a Stryker to a Bradly, to a LEG, to Airborne etc. Im a soldier in the army so i won't be able to declare plenty on the Marines, yet i be responsive to that like Specter mentioned they are amazing specifically Infantry fields and are the spearhead.

Every Marine I ever met; officer, enlisted, grunt, musician, tailor, cook or mechanic was pretty good at Infantry 101. Of course, I was a sailor and we weren't expected to know about such things.

It's defiantly true.. Event hough we had some highly technical jobs we were still expected to hit the range every year for qual, also we were responcible for our own defences.. no grunts were assigned to defend say an airfield for example.. expected to do our own patrols and man our own defences.. if you can;t shoot straight you didnt go far as a marine at all.

No, that is just their motto. They are not infantry, they are just a branch of the military, and just like the Army, they have an infantry unit.
