A 4wd drive vehicle will not tip over easier than a 2wd vehicle of the same make or style. Most 4wd vehicles have a raised center of gravity since they are either a pickup truck or SUV, all of which are available as 2wd. There are a lot of advantages to the increased traction of 4wd, however, it is just that 4 wheel drive, NOT 4 WHEEL STOP!! I agree with a lot of points that the mechanic who answered before me made. You have to know what the limitations of the vehicle are and you also have to be a safe operator of your chosen vehicle. In the snow or even a hard rain storm, 4wd can be better since all tires are providing power and traction. At the same time, this can lead to overconfidence and ultimately risky driving since your vehicle handles the road conditions with greater ease than a two wheel rear drive auto. Front wheel drive is similar as the power and steering are handled by the same axle, but in no way does it match 4 wheel drive in severe driving. Hope this helps.

All other things being equal, no. If I lived in a place where it snows and could chose between a two wheel drive and an all wheel drive model of the same car, I'd take the all wheel drive.

The thing to remember is that in normal street driving, the only problem that all wheel drive will prevent is getting stuck in snow or mud. It will not bail you out if you lock up your brakes on ice or go into a corner too fast on an icy road.

it is if your not use to the way a four wheel drive vehicle handles,,especially in the snow and bad weather,,most people think because it is a 4 wheel drive it will do anything,,not true,,you have to know how to drive one,,or they can be more dangerous than a 2 wheel drive vehicle,,some people are scared of a 4 wheel drive, and that makes it very dangerous to them ,,and all around them driver knowledge is the best thing to have when driving any vehicle,,good luck,,i hope this helps.

Only if you believe the "News" media. Depends on the driver, but 4 wheel drive vehicles have better front/rear weight distribution than a strictly 2 wheel drive vehicle. And that improves handling in emergency maneuvers.

safety is a usage issue and is not a mechanical issue. the comparison will depend on the usage thus the context is key. 4wheel drive is designed to provide power\traction to all four wheels. there is a difference between all wheel and four wheel drive, four wheel drive should also increase engine compression. therefore it can be used in complex driving situations. those situations also require specific driving knowledge and can be less safe given the drivers knowledge

I'm not sure, but I would think that 4-wheel drive is safer because you have more control of the tires...

neither is the right answer... the most important factor is the driver..sometimes 4 wheel drive gives the drive overconfidence and this can and has lead to many accidents.

A 4WD will tip over easier than a 2WD, because of the height. They are almost always higher for ground clearance.
this is more likely to happen at freeway speeds, when you make a sudden maneuver to avoid an accident or whatever.
