Sorry to say, dogs are carnivorous. Teeth, digestion all set up for a predominantly meat diet - their teeth are almost all the "rip and tear" variety, not the "grind" teeth that herbivores, like horses, have, or some of the teeth omnivores, like humans, have. That said, they can do fine on fish-based kibble, and some breeds prefer it (both of ours do).
There are vegetarian kibbles, but I'd consult a veterinarian before putting any dog on a "no meat" diet. It might be possible to do with the proper dietary supplements (unlike cats, who don't do well on the no-meat plan), but a veterinarian can tell you what you'd need to do/feed to make it work.
Part of what makes living with a dog great is that you bond to someone who will never be exactly like you, or see the world precisely as you do, partially because of that species difference. It's best to learn to accept and appreciate your dog as a dog, and do what it needs to be a healthy dog.
Look at it this way - your chances of finding a vegetarian wolf, lion, or snake are also remote.

Don't give any dog vegetarian meals. Technically, any dog can supposedly live on a vegetarian diet, but it's not good for their health. Dogs are naturally carnivorous, which means that they must consume meat. They do eat plants and berries on occasion in the wild, but they certainly don't depend on it...their main source is meat. Pet dogs aren't different from their wild ancestors when it comes to digestion and metabolism, so being given a veggie meal is like getting cardboard for dinner. It's not enough for them...and there isn't a substitute besides their meat. You can give them BOTH veggies and meat, but you can't just skip meat altogether.
Your beliefs about food are just fine for humans. Humans get to choose if they want to be vegetarian or not...but dogs don't work that way. Don't confuse YOUR way of eating to your DOG'S. Absolutely NO breed will be healthy being given only veggie meals, and you must come to grips with the fact that your dog needs flesh to be healthy. Talk to a vet about what to do. Hope I help!!

How about just plain old dog food? Besides dogs can get very fat on meat. It is good for a dog to get meat once in a while but it's not gonna kill them to get no meat at all as long as you give your dog atleast protein in their food. There are many dog foods out there made specially with extra protein.

Everyone in ma sister house is vegetarian but they juz give the dog cans of dog food and biscuits. They have a special knife and bowl for the dog and she always wraps the can in carrier bag before putting it in the bin coz she hates the smell.
I agree with everyone that a dog needs meat in its diet. U could get a bird or a hamster they can be fed on a vegi diet

Dogs are carnivores. Humans are omnivores. Our bodies are designed to allow us to eat an all vegetarian diet, all meat diet, or a diet consisting of both, if we choose. A dogs' body is not designed to eat a vegetarian diet---they are designed to metabolize meat and only certain plant matters.
If you're adamant about not feeding a dog meat, I suggest getting an herbivore pet instead...like a rabbit, or guinea pig.

Yes, you can feed a dog vegetarian. Look here
http://www.vegetariandogs.com/ Just make sure that the dog is getting the proper protein and fat in its diet. You can make your own food, just like raw feeders do. You will probably have to supplement if you do this, but you can have a healthy vegetarian dog.

It can be done, but it seems sad to take an animal that has a normally carnivorous diet and force it to be vegitarian. Just because you want to make that choice, does a dog have to???????

Dogs are designed to eat meat; they are carnivores. Your dog will end up malnourished and could quite possibly die. He needs meat for nourishment. Just because you are depriving your body of essential nutrients doesn't mean that you should do that to him! Please, don't get a dog at all.

A dog's natural diet contains meat.....any kind of breed. Taking the protein out of its diet will eventualy make it very ill.
Why don't you try getting some fish instead?
