I live in and park in the city, work out of it, and go snowboarding all winter in the mountains. Ideally i'd like an AWD that is compact enough to park in the city with not too much hassle. Not trying to break the bank either, I definitely don't want a jeep.

A Subaru Impreza sounds perfect for what you need....and they start at about $19,000 with Automatic.

Toyo matrix AWD, or Pontiac VIBE. Those are the two best for what you want to do without breaking the bank. Your insurance will be a little more since it is AWD. You will be looking at about $300 a month with around $3000 down. That is just a rough estimate.

Subaru is known for AWD. Another option not mentioned is a Honda crv. Small but capable for your needs and budget. Definitely easy to drive and park in a congested city.

I LOVE my Ford Escape. It has the turning radius of a car, a backseat that folds down, a rack on top for large things, and gets great gas mileage. I got a great deal on a new 'last years model' with all the bells and whistles for rock bottom price, but they aren't expensive at all! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE my Escape, and have turned a few people on to buying one as well. Did I mention I love my Escape?

Look into the Kia Sportage.. it is a small suv that gets good gas mileage and is all wheel drive but should do nice in a urban envirnment also. I have a Kia and it has been a real nice vehicle. plus the warranties are pretty good also. 10 year 100000 mile i believe......
