when you lift weights,
how much are you supposed to lift,
because, when i work out,
my muscles start burning
and then i go until i can't do anymore
and then i go work out another part of my body
and go back to the same machine that i was on before
is this okay?

Always work your way up. Never start off big and hope something good will happen. You'll end up straining or pulling a muscle and then you won't be able to use that muscle for a few days.

It depends on what you're lifting and what your strength already is. If it's just curling some weights, start off with 5 or 10 pounds and do 20 or however many reps you can curl with each arm. If you're benching, start off with 40 or 50 pounds. When your muscles are burning it means that they're being worked. It is ok, but it is stress on your body. Don't overdo it if you feel wiped out. Take a break.

The best way to weight train is this: do 3 sets each for each muscle group. Pyramid the weights, for example: 1st set should be light 2nd set should be heavier 3rd set should be heaviest.
This way the muscles do the lightest set for a warm up, then they lift the heavier ones. Your muscles should be burning by the 3rd set, so you'll have to experiment with each muscle group to see what is heaviest for you. So remember: 3 sets/12 reps for all (this makes it easy to remember).

It depends on what you're attempting to accomplish. If you are trying to get lean then you should do medium amounts of weight, 10 reps per set, 5-6 sets. If you are attempting to bulk up then you will need to lift heavier or more intense. Drop sets are good for this.
