Breaking News...Boxing is a sport.

You need facts for what? Is this a research project or an argument for or against boxing? The history of boxing is that it began (at least formalized boxing began) with the pitting of two men against each other. Greeks boxed. Romans boxed. Young men fight. It's just something they do and has to do with testosterone levels. So it was made into a sport, with all sorts of rules which, over time, have grown to include protective gear to prevent scrambled brains. Bareknuckle boxing seldom caused severe injuries, but when boxers began using padded gloves they were able to deliver very powerful punches without breaking the bones in their hands. So the 'protective gear' actually made the sport more harmful. And career boxers, who spent their lives getting their heads thumped, were in a totally different position than young men who put up their dukes and had the occasional bareknuckle bout.
What puzzles me is that women have taken up boxing and wrestling for no particular reason, it seems, except that they were excluded from these sports and thought this was some sort of blight on their equality. Cauliflower noses and thick ears aren't especially pretty, on either women or men.
Wrestling is a reasonable sport for guys, but from my point of view there's no real justification for boxing at all. Testosterone or no. There are other ways today to test yourself.

Boxing is the art of the self defence, it's a sport that have a lot of rules and the right equipment to prevent very serious injuries or even the death of your opponent like in the bare fist combats.

The winner in a boxing match is not the one who throw a lot of shots or who punishes the opponent but the one who have the right skills, knowledge and strength.

Even there are women whom practice boxing, also this discipline is applied to aerobics and another sort of fitness activities.

Pretty stupid question...boxing already *is* a sport. If you don't know anything about boxing and don't care to educate yourself about boxing--which you can do in any library or with a few searches online--I sure don't see a good reason why boxing fans should waste their time trying to justify the sport to a clueless troll. This is actually a worse question than the interminable Tyson nut hugging from the clueless masses. An utter and complete waste of time...

Boxing is indeed a sport

why?

because they condition much like wrestlers, or any other type of sports.

The train for quickness, speed, plus their cardio is beyond belief

They go 5-10 rounds str8 without any long breaks

they have to be able to punch quick and be smart to dodge others punches

tell me why soccer is a sport? all tehy do is kick the ball around and into a goal

tell me why basketball is a sport? all they do is dribble and shoot into baskets

I bet u anything, it takes heart and dedication and somewhat talent to become a great boxer, just like any other sport.

heres the definition of sports itself

hope u will respect boxing after this and maybe find out its not that bad.

It already is a sport. It requires the same dedication to training and conditioning as most sports. It is less likely for a person to be hurt in a permanent manner from boxing then so in NFL football.

It is a sport and it has been going on since the 1800'sn in England the fight is always governed under the Marquis of Queens berry rules he was a English nobleman who invented the rules as we know them today. Its the only sport whose rules have not changed much since the inception of the sport. In the early days fights lasted 100's of rounds with no gloves...imagine that

how the hell isn't it a sport? they show poker and car driving on ESPN..sport involves athletic ability and strategy..if you have ever watched boxing you would understand that conditioning often can be the difference between a loss and a win..strategy..you can't overpunch yourself..you have to deal with height..and weight differences..southpaws..and making in fight adjustments..the same as in football, baseball, and ect..ive never heard anyone dumb enough to even make an arguement against it..morons

I don't think it should be. Look at Mohammad Ali, and many others like him they suffer from brain damage, for what nothing. Why is it a sport, so they don't ban the practice as they were about to in the 1900's after some boxers got killed (same thing with football). This way it gets officiated and they can call it a sport.

Because consenting adults want to make money participating in it and paying money to watch it.
