Does that include OTC remedies? Many vitamins, minerals and natural substances have a positive effect. Obviously physical exercise does a lot for a healthy mind as it works in conjunction with the body. Those with ADD, for instance, have been theorized to be genetic holodouts from the hunter/gatherer days, when activity was all the more necessary, and research has born out that these types function better after exercise. They have a wide overlap with diagnoses of bipolar disorder, which falls into a similar category, which has overlap with other mood disorders and schizophrenia. SAM-e, Omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-lipoic acid, GABA, calcium, zinc and magnesium have shown beneficial effects in brain activity in different ways and I personally have found ways to use different substances in conjunction, dependent on my mood. Kava kava is a nice quick fix for anxiety attacks and the hyperactive mind, and GABA for more serious sudden bouts.

Your thoughts can actually change the way your brain chemistry works so repeating positive things to yourself can help. Also, this might sound really funny but it's something I have been practicing...I noticed I wasn't smiling very often like I used to so i started to 'practice' smiling again just while I was by myself. It actually made it alot easier to smile naturally and I felt better. Even other people noticed that I seemed happier, which of course helped me with interactions with others, which of course made me feel even better. Sounds silly but it's been an interesting revelation!
