Okay, first of all, I'll be 17 in exactly two months. When I turned 16, my parents made me wait 2 months to get my driver's permit. I got winter experience and all that, and I asked my mom if I can schedule my road test, and she said no, and that she wanted me to get "more winter experience". First of all, I HAVE winter experience and I just want my darn license. I even completed a driver's education course last spring. I'm sick of waiting for something that I actually want a lot. I don't ask for much. In fact, they hardly make the time for me to go driving anymore.

Why do my parents have to be like this? It's just no fair at all, and I really mean that. I mean, people younger than me have had their licenses for MONTHS. I just want more freedom and I want to be happy about something for once.

I'm grateful for any answers to this question.

Well it may not be about you and winter at all. You see when you get your lisence your parents insurance will jack up! Also they may be making you wait because they don't want you to get your lisence yet because they are scared you may get hurt or who knows what could happen every one has been in some kind of accident and alot of parents don't want to deal with the risk!! Also maybe they had something planned for your licensing day and just don't have the funds this year or not. Hold on and sit down and have a very calm discussion of what is going to happen once you get it and so on. The more they understand the more calm they will be!!!

I had a friend who was about 20 at the time was reaching in her glove department for something hit the gravel over corrected and rolled her car she was dead at the scene.

Me I got my lisence and hit 4 deer in less than a year I have been in the ditch more times than I can count I got in a fender bender in the city all of this before I was 18 you don't really get a grasp on driving till you experence these things and it is better not to alone!!

We are going through the same thing. All of our son's friends are driving. He is taking the written test first to get his permit. Studying the manual night after night. When he is successful, he will have a whole winter of driving experience. I understand your frustration and I understand your parents point of view. That was our point. Winter driving experience. As long as he is showing responsibility by keeping his grades up, etc. he will have his license in the spring. Sounds like they really do have your best interest at heart even though it doesn't seem like it right now. Do they know that it is bothering you this much? If not, let them see this question that you posted. Maybe it will help. Good Luck to you.

I can't believe I am about to say this because it makes me feel very old (I'm only 22)...but listen to them. They really do have your best interest at heart. I know you feel prepared, but they don't feel that way, and they would probably rather you be a little upset with them instead of having you out on the road before you're ready. I look back now, and I think that I was too young to start driving when I did (I got my license right after my 16th birthday). Trust me, driving loses its appeal- it's not as fun after a while. So don't be in a hurry, enjoy the life you have now.

Eventually you will have your license, and you'll be able to go wherever you want. Your parents are trying to protect you.

My parents made me wait until I turned 17 before I could get my license. There's really not much you can do other than wait. I know thats probably the last thing you want to hear right now but that's all I can really say.

Good luck.

Maybe they don't feel that you are responsible enough yet. You should try talking to them about getting your license one night over dinner and ask them why because winter experience do they not want you to have your license. Then just don't ask then for alittle while and maybe you will be surprised one day when your mom says that you are going!

I completely agree that you should be able to get your license.
sit down and talk to your parents and see if there is another problem.

If you have taken a drivers ed course, I'm not really sure what the problem is. if the qualified driving instructor said that you were good enough to drive, I would go by his word.

If your parents dont change their minds, then you need to wait until you are 18 and move out and get your own license.

You don't need ur parents necessarily to get your license as long as someone that has their license goes with you
