Im just wondering becaue Im looking at vacation packages for Puerto Vallarta/Cancun/ San Juan Puerto Rico and Im getting some crazy prices for vacation packages.

It's usually quite a bit cheaper to book the two together as a package. I usually check out both options on Yahoo Travel and Expedia.

It really just depends on how hard you look. Some times you can piece together your own flight and hotel for cheaper than if you got a package.

In popular destinations like those you may find there are cheaper options by booking flight and hotel separately. Also the price can fall if you are flexible about your travel dates. If you want to hire a guide to go trekking there can be more savings by organizing it yourself when you arrive:

if you book them seperately you can get a deal at a lower ranked hotel ie budget inn or a travelodge...or el travelodge... but you really are going to get what you pay for...

Book on your own is often cheaper.
