sofar im not real happy with XP..a friend talked me into using his disk which was used already{dang}so my 2000 pro is gone but this XP seems to be slower is that because my LT is not built for it or is it an adjustment i can make i just havent done?first computer so i dont really know...i just know its not better as is...please give recomendations as to whether i can make XP workable or if im better off with what the computer came with

Have you looked into adding more RAM (memory)? for the most part, that will be the biggest drawback an older laptop that can run win2k will have. You need at least 512meg of memory, and at least a gig if you run any memory intensive apps.

However, in my opinion, it rarely makes economic sense for a person who isn't a pro to update an older PC to a newer OS. You've got to update many drivers, (another possible source for slowness), usually add more memory (if your PC can even accept enough memory to make a diff).

When you add up the cost of the new OS, the additional memory, and the incidental expenses of getting new drivers, taking it to a pro to fix all the stuff you've messed up, etc; I think you will find you can buy a new computer with the new OS already on it for the same amount of money. And the new computer will just plain be better able to operate the newer programs better.

youre computer proably wont handle xp.i'd try to take it to a local computer repair to see if 2000 can be reinstalled.one time i wiped the whole win 98 operating system out but was able to restore.check microsoft website also.might be available no charge
