Ok, so currently I am eating a healthy breakfast, and lower calorie (140 to 220) Lean Cuisines for lunch and dinner. Also, I'm allowing myself however much fruits and vegetables throughout the day for snacksAnd, I'm trying to drink at least 64oz of water, sometimes more. As far as physical ativity, I'm walking, biking, weight lifting.I also have an elliptical machine, but I need to get some new batteries. I'm trying to lose about 60 pounds,so, it's going to be a while. One of my questions is, can I eat too much fruit? I try to balance the fruit with the vegetables, but I know that fruit is VERY high in sugar, naturally,so, is it ok to have 3 or 4 pieces or servings of fruit a day? And, is there anything I can take to actually help me burn calories/fat,supplements,anything?Any suggestions on healthy low cal, not too high carb breakfast ideas?I have a history of yo yo dieting & bulemia, but I HAVE to lose weight for my health,So please, anything that will help me will be VERY appreciated.

After years of trying every diet out there and suffering from compulsive overeating I finally got honest with myself. Diets do not work. I had a long talk with myself and came to the conclusion that moderation in everything is best. After one year I have lost 45 pounds. I have not denied myself any of my favorite foods. Before I eat I ask myself what quantity I would have ordinarily consumed and I eat just a little less. Sometimes it is a tiny bit less. Occasionally it is half as much. I walk 30 minutes a day no matter what--no excuses. The first 6 weeks I lost nothing. After that it came off slowly so a lot of patience is required. Good luck to you.

Good job and good luck!! Sounds like you are definitely doing everything you need to to get to where you want to be. You should also read up on how to speed up your metabolism which can definitely help. Drinking alot of water as well as healthy snacks throughout the day definite helps with that. Also eatting spicy foods promotes metabolism. The best and quickest way to loose weight is to add weight training which you are already doing. Make sure to take in enough protein to build some muscle which will reduce the fat.

Did you know that burning 250 calories a day and eating 250 calories less a day is sufficient enough to lose 1lb a week ( I was told this by my personal trainer ). So if you think about it in one year that is 52lbs. It does sound like you are doing enough to achieve this if not more so. What kinds of fruit are you eating because fruits like water melon and papayas are great for helping to burn fat. Try to eat more veg to help balance out the fruit, remember its suggested that you have 5 portions of fruit & veg a day. Please stay away from any sort of slimming aids because they will do you little or no good.

Hello,
I've been doing the weightwatchers thing so this might help. Eat more veggies than fruit. I know that fruit has points so that means that there is sugar in there. Vegetables don't have points so you can eat an endless amount of them. So I guess I am saying eat more veggies than fruit : )

A bowl of fiber cereal or whole grain cereal is good for breakfast, Special K is also good.

Fruits are good and so are vegetables as long as they are fresh and not canned. I think 2 to 3 servings of fruits is reasonable and same with vegetables.

I would also recommend taking a multivitamin for anyof the nutrients or anything your body is missing it will help also ...

Good luck and as long as you are consistent and have a support system you should do well...

If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate , and plan your diet carefully. Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

This is a copy of my Blog from September 10. Eating too much fruit will work against you. There is some information on diet further down in the discussion.

There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.

The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.

Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.

Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.

There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you exercise them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.

If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

Aloha
