The cat I am taking care of used to be a fatty. It is now a healthy weight but it has a flappy skin pouch where it used to have a fat gut. Is there any way to get rid of that short of kitty nip tucking? Will it go away eventually by itself?

It lost weight through food restrictions. This is the only way. Feed it weight control and the recommended amount for weight loss. It does ask for more food and breaks into cupboards to try to get more, but you have to be tough. Bad Kitty, bad kitty!

depending on how long ago the weight was lost will determine if the skin will go away. if it's been a while chances are it won't go away, but if the cat recently lost the weight there's a chance it'll go back to normal.

I know exactly what you mean. I would do it over again, but I do hate the excess skin! I am seriously thinking after I have my last child (trying to convince hubby right now to start trying for a last child!) that I may check into a tummy tuck. Yeah I know that it costs money, but it is so hard to find clothes that fits right! That would be the main reason I done it, is for the clothes reason. I hate shopping bc nothing ever fits me bc of my saggy belly! I have read a lot on exercising the lower tummy, and maybe if you google lower stomach exercises it will help you, but personally I have had no luck! Maybe you will, though!

I don't think so. When I get my cat, she's a bit older and she used to be fat. VERY fat. But when she lost weight on the diet I put her on, she has the saggy pouch (you have to admit, it is kinda of cute to watch it sway when your cat runs)...I don't think it goes away. My cat has been at the same weight for about a year and she still has the 'jowls'...I haven't heard of anything such as a kitty nip tucking...

Stop worrying about it. Some breeds of cats have that shape. Mine does. Not from over eating either. And, no, it won't go away on it's own. Play and exercise (thought recommended) will not do a thing to get rid of the kitty purse he/she carries.

He needs a tummy tuck, ha,ha. My cat has never been over weight, the vet told me that, this happens in older cats, & that its quite common.

After male cats are neutered they get a flap of fat there usually. Thats what happened to my cats.

is your cat fixed? if she/he is then i can tell you almost positvily what it is.. I asked my vet the same thing because my cat has that pouch also. My vet said that it is just from getting fixed and it has nothing to do with the weight issue... ill bet your cat is a male (male cats get the biggest pouches)

it will probably go away. but how did you get the cat to lose weight? mine is terribly fat, his stomach touches the ground. I've tried everything from more play to limiting his food. but when i limit the food he cries like someone is hurting him and he goes crazy.
