It has a metallic like coating that disperses the microwave energy over the entire hot pocket for much more even cooking in the microwave. They works very well too I might add.

The only thing the sleeve will do consistently is uniformly heat the Pocket. As far as crisping it, you cannot control the shape of the Pocket or the sleeve, so where they come in contact, the breading will burn even if you're following the cooking directions. It works because of the silver lining, which has a coating of metal particles that more evenly distribute the heat across the food. The reason why the metal doesn't spark or cause arcs is because it's blocked by the cardboard in the outside.

The plastic-coated metal inside it helps it to heat more evenly. There's a comedian named Jim Gaffigan who does the FUNNIEST bit about hot pockets...he's got a myspace page and his website is http://www.jimgaffigan.com ENJOY!!

Just so you wont get nasty stuff in the microwave and when you take it out it will make it less hot on your hand.
