I won't be able to put my 6' fence up until next year. In the meantime how do I keep people(namely schoolkids!) off my lawn? I live on a corner property, and people seem to think they are free to walk through my yard(even if I'm sitting in it!). They leave garbage in the shrubs! How do i keep them out? (Beware of dog sign didn't work!)

If your property is near the school you might want to ask the principal to address the issue of staying on the sidewalk with the kids. It probably won't stop everyone but the more conscientious child who does respect rules if they know them might end up addressing the issue with his/her peers.

I would put up a sign on the lawn that clearly says do not walk on it. Or put up no tresspassing signs, this would at least give you a legal recourse. Then I'd start collecting names and contacting parents if necessary. It depends on the neighborhood you're in too, some people live in bad areas and would not want to bring undo attention on themselves. Unfortunately, the days where people have respect for others and their property are all but gone completely.

Run your lawn sprinkler for about a half hour before and after school. Unless it's a very hot day most of the kids will avoid walking through the shower. You'll keep your lawn nice and green and keep the kids on the sidewalk.

Get the DOG!!! :-) Or a small low voltage single line electric fence, while sadistic, will work wonders. Of course that is merely wishful thinking as you are liable for the safety of others on your property even if they are trespassing.... silly legal system.

Get a sign that clearly states to keep of the grass and no trespassing, and good luck!!

I think that u should tell them to please stay off your property. Maybe when u go to a place where they sell things for home improvemnet like The Home Depot, they sell some very small and cute fences that are no more than a foot tall. I'm thinking this might help them see that u don't want them on your lawn.

Nothing until you get the fence put up. If you hassle any of the kids walking across your lawn they will just be back at night to spray paint your house.

Keep a big dog in the front yard.... kids used to jump my fence because it backed up to the school. I left my dog (shephard-chow mix, looks intimidating, but the sweetest dog I have ever owned) in the backyard for about a week, and the problem solved itself :-)

I live on a corner and I have the same problem. I finally just had to learn to live with it, because nothing I did worked. I have to pick up a full bag of trash every couple of days, too. It is annoying isn't it?

My grandma lives on a corner also . The kids learn after getting the hose out a few times. You have full rights to do it also, nothing illegal about it. My grandma had asked the kids to please stay out of her yard, she tried many, many times to be nice. Get the hose out. Ha ha ha They don't stomp through her ivy anymore either. To many of them wound up with cat or dog poo on their shoes. Hmmm I wonder how that got there? Video taping also helps. They don't like it when you show it to their parents.
