actually ford trucks have been the best selling trucks for 29 years! And if you look at jd powers survey on dependability, fords are now in the top ten! with gm and alot of the foreign brands being in the bottom ten.

I prefer to base my statements on FACTS.
As for dependability & reliability: J.D. Powers & Assoc. studied millions of vehicles. Their study (which they conduct every year) involves vehicles that have been on the roas for 3 years and calculates how many service visits or problems each manufacturer has. Their most recent study (of model year 2003 vehicles) just released in August 2006, proves that Ford, Lincoln & Mercury ALL are ABOVE the industry average.

So obviously they are NOT the worst vehicles you can purchase. I will list all 37 manufacturers (in order of their dependability, best being #1 , worst being #37) according to FACTS rather than biased OPINIONS .

1 Lexus
2 MERCURY
3 Buick
4 Cadillac
5 Toyota
6 Acura

8 Jaguar
9 BMW
10 Infinity
11 LINCOLN

I have owned two Ford trucks. The first one had 250,000+ miles on it and ran fine when I sold it. My "new' one has 100,000 miles and looks and runs like brand new. Ford Trucks are the best in the world, period. I owned a Chevy once, never will again. I usually buy what I have good experiences with, and my next truck will be a Ford again. Excursions are super durable. The truck should hold up for a long time as long as it is maintained. Remember, solid front axles require maintenance if the four wheel drive is used often. I don't know what that other guy is smoking, the Excursion doesn't share a tranny with the Explorer. PS, get the diesel. Higher resale value, more power, less maintenance, and much better fuel economy.

Ford is Good truck for working. It is designed to work hard. Some say that a Chevy will run longer, and htat's true. But if you Tow 1000 pounds every day for 300 miles in both a Ford and a Chevy, the Chevy will break first. Ford for work, Chevy for comfort. The only thing is, sometimes the excursion transmission goes out, in a big way. It has the same tranny as the explorer, and in the shop we call those ford "exploders". But the bottom line is that if you take care of the vehicle, it should lasy you just as long as anything else would.

It's not the brand that determines the longevity nowadays(most manufactuers have half decent quality). It's how well the vehicles are maintained by the owner that determines how long a vehicle will last. Back in say pre-1986 fords did earn that reputation (fix or repair daily) as compared to their direct competitors(ie Chevy), but since 1986 the shoe has basically been on the other foot (don't deny it chevy owners...look at consumer reports and use the last generation of camaros/firebirds as the perfect examples). Ford has basically stepped up and chevy..well they didn't go backwards...they just didn't move forward since then in quality assurance. The camaros/firebirds were great cars though...they could beat the last generation of mustang up until 2002...problem is that couldn't keep running to do further beating...

I know many who bought a Ford and most regret it. Nothing but problems, almost from day one. When the Focus came out, it had more recalls than any new car. The problem is none of the repairs are the same so its hard to pin point what will go next. I understand the trucks are OK, its just the cars. If you need proof, check the selling price of a five year old Ford against a five year old GM or Chrysler. They almost give the Ford away.

Everyone has their opinion about different cars and trucks, but I am a Ford fan all the way. I have a F-350 dually and new mustang GT and trust me, I drive my vehicles hard and I have never had any trouble with them. All the BS you get about fords from other people is simply because they can't probably afford them. We also mud race and trust me, a big block Ford can't be beat. And for those with all the little FORD sayings, this is the correct one.........First On Race Day = FORD

Looks like just about every one else has covered the good and the bad of Fords and Chevys. I have had several Ford trucks and have not worn one out yet. I gave all of them to my kids and grand kids and every one of the trucks are still running. I have an Excursion right now with the diesel engine and it runs great. Have about 20k on it and not had a single problem. I do a rigorous preventative maintenance program on it that is patterned after the Mercedes program on their '60 maintenance program, jut as I have on all my trucks. I use Amsoil syntetic oil throughout the vehicle. Have for years. Never had an engine or transmission failure.

The Excursion is a very good vehicle.
They are the F250 pickup frame with a solid body, in Ford's answer to a Chevy Suburban.
In comparison, that's a good combo.
These trucks are very good and will last a long time.
These aren't known to get too good of gas mileage, but with the diesel motor, is a better choice.

Or Found On Road Dead. But I do not feel the same. I have had
six different Fords since 1985 ranging from a 1977 Granada to my current 2003 Escape. Not one of them has given me any mechanical problems that would need to FixorRepairDaily and it was not Found On Road Dead.
