Psychiatrists seem to think that a perfectly "sane" individual never gets angry, never gets aggressive, never fends for himself, never express his discontent, never gets combative, never make any claims.

Psychiatrists seem to think that a perfectly "sane" individual always says yes, is always docile and mildly shy, always agree with authority, always accept any burden they might suffer, always display a plastic smile no matter what.

Come on, this is not sanity. Psychiatry is bullshit.

You're a scientologist or a marxist? You have no basis for these claims. These drugs are important to stop people from acting violently, feel depressed, abnormally rapid and harmful mood swings.

The patients I have come across don't want to be feeling this way, there is something internally wrong, this erratic behaviour is not a sign of their natural personality in full bloom, but a neurological or pyschological disorder.

Psychiatrists do recognise that in many cases patients do strange things in order to attract attention to themselves; these people are not given drugs.

There are people out there that do become violent at times. There are also people who, given the right situation, could explode and become very violent. I work EMS and have dealt with manic depressive, bi-polar, schizophrenics, just to mention a few.

I have witnessed people who were meek and mild, blow up and attempt to kill or seriously injury someone they love.

While I think ADD and ADHD are a basic crock, I still think shrinks do have a place out there even though they do turn some people into zombies with their medications

I thought so too but I actually found a cool shrink when I live in San Antonio many years ago..,he used to tell me how his parents would tick him off.., there are a few good ones instead of the 60's long haired flower children who think they are still there.I would say if you had all those feelings you are completely normal..,see and thats alot cheaper than a hippie lol.

Actually most Psychiatrists I have met would view your description of the ideal as a dis-affective state and think it was very unhealthy, not sane at all.

That is completely untrue. Where are you getting your information from? The Scientologists? I doubt you will ever find a legitimate text on psychiatry that defines mental stability in that way. Maybe you should try reading one before you try to discredit something that you obvioulsy do not understand.

well I see your point

maybe its cuz Psych docs mostly have to deal with people who ARE a danger to themselves and/or others. Its better to drug soembody into submission than beat them into submission. Sometimes thats the choice. They do the best they can and mostly are trying to help. Peope should be allowed to be weird I think unless hurting anyone.

Plastic smile is a choice, if I'm not happy I will frown or even scowl. If nobody likes it, tough. I smile and laugh if I'm happy. Only then. We do have to deal with any burders we get, whats the choice after all?

Sometimes pills can make a better quality of life, even with deadly side efects. Sometimes they create a living hell. Pay attention to what works and what doesn't. Work WITH the docs.

It's their job.

My view is that if I take a car to a garage, a mechanic will find something wrong with it, because that is how he earns money. Why should a psychiatrist or therapist or councilor be any different?

Perhaps because most of the people who come to see them- are whiny, negative, attitude ridden people- like yourself.
