The more basic question people are asking is "Does life have meaning?" If all that exists ultimately came by way of unguided natural processes, then life is on the whole entirely without meaning or purpose. All the suffering and our hard work will in the end amount to nothing.

If however, God exists, then there is a chance that we are indeed here for a purpose, and it is only in this situation where the question even begins to make sense.

There is no meaning to life. Our life is no different from any other animal. We eat, we reproduce and the we die. But that doesn't mean we can't make the best of what little time we have. What you do with that time is what gives life meaning.
