what? thumb tacks are those little round buttons with a pin sticking out that u use ur thumb to push into the wall... hence thumb tack. what kidna weird random question is that.

Usually called, in UK anyway, drawing pins because they were originally designed for holding drawings onto a board, but not impeding the use of a rule or square.

little sharp things that you can use to hang things up and whatnot. they're like little nails kinda. they're called thumb tacks because you don't need a tool, you just use your thumb to push them in.
