is it so hard for people just to remain quiet when it is needed
a lady was asking for prayers for her mother and recieved a negative answer
now i am not asking that you all pray .. because some of you dont and thats all fine and well
but when someone is asking out of love for healing for someone close .. then what harm is there just to let those who do believe in prayer to offer it to her ?
please be a little more tactful and polite and refrain from answering if someone is truly in pain .. it doesnt cost a thing to be nice

if you do not pray or do not believe in prayers .. then why not wish her mother well .. or anyone asking for prayers for that matter ... it all adds to her comfort

I dont believe in prayers (it is some ancient religious ritual) It has no place in the modern world. I do wish the mother well, however my thoughts, prayers, or rubbing a lucky horse shoe will not make one iota of difference.

Unfortunately (for religious folk) ... people will mock such practices as "Praying" is a *really* is a whacky thing to do.

If your commanding officer was leading you in to battle and gathered all the troops around him and said, "OK, guys i am going to rub the lucky horse shoe, this will help us to win this battle" ... i think most of the troops would run a mile. Well this is pretty much the same thing as praying...

I agree, Pangel. There is nothing more inconsiderate than mocking a person when they are asking for help and comfort. I wish people could realize the damage that can be caused by a harsh word, and that they would have a little decency to let it go.

I completely agree with you! I'm not religious & don't belive in the power of prayer but there are alot of people out there that do! Who has the right to question someone elses faith just because its not for them doesnt mean they should bad mouth it!

Yes, you're correct. We should meet people's needs even though we "think we know best." It is of course very comforting to know that others are praying for you, even though it's unlikely that God will intervene; I mean, maybe the continuation of that difficult situation is
actually in accordance with God's will, for you!
Anyway,I hope this wasn't one of my "rude answers" that Pangel is referring to!

As a Humanist who doesn't pray, I agree with you completely. A little compassion and simple human kindness go a long way.

Those people who gave a negative answer will get there's, all in good time. God takes care of His own. Praise the Lord. I believe that the Lord is working on that mother as we speak. Praise the Lord!!

Forgive them pangel, they are afraid or they would not react that way.

Something in their life has hurt them and they think that they are being helpful and they are trying to save others from the disapointment that touched them so deeply.

I loath the negativity too but I always try to understand and remember that people respond in the way that makes sense to them at the moment. Even if it makes no sense to me.

They need our prayers too.
