I once watched an Australian science, maths etc. program and the one guy went to South-East Asia where he tried something called coffee-cremay (or something like that). Once the coffee was made (finished off in a cup), the guy would then pour the coffee from the original cup into another and vice versa for about 3 times. Accordingly, this would then make the coffee just about right to drink (neither hot nor cold). I think you can try experimenting with this.

Try asking for a cup of ice when you order coffee. My dad used to add 1 -3 small pieces of ice to the hot coffee to get the temp down. If that brings the temp down too much just top the cup off with more ot coffee and balance the temperature.
It cools ask the level drops in the cup anyway, so I always use more hot coffee from the pot to warm my drink back up.
Now excuse, me I got to go brew a fresh pot of french roast.

Put it close to your mouth to feel the radiant heat. Your finger is not accurate because it feels a lot hotter that way. I work at a coffee shop and I still get burned if I get some hot coffee on my hand but I'll drink it right away though! The brewer usually says the water is between 190-201 degrees.

you can buy cups with a little dot on them. if its red its too hot to drink.

by putting it near your face, ,you can feel the heat come off of it,, At the convenience store I always add a few cubes of ice, because it is hot

welll... you have to take a risk... and try a bit...
so if it's too hot don't drink it becouse you will probably burn yourself...
and if it's cool enough..
than you know what to do....

you drink it and if it burns you then its too hot, and if it doesnt then you can drink it

stick your finger in it, to test, and if it burns it's too hot, and if it is comfortable, it's just right,
