When people do something wrong and then say they are sorry, I believe you can give them a chance. With emphasis on a. If they do it again, then they are not really sorry. They just said it to get away with it again. If some cheats on you, 1 chance and no more, they will do it again and again and again. My grandfather always told us, once a dog eats its sh*t, they will always eat it, no matter what.

There's no magic number here. It all depends on how things are between the two of you and what you're forgiving him about? For instance if he's cheating on you or abusing you, you shouldn't forgive him at all. Just leave. If he forgot to wash the dishes or farted while you two were eating lol, then you can forgive him many many many times before you could even 'consider' the whole 'calling it quits' thing.

i forgave my guy about 5 times thinking things would get better but if i was smarter i should have given him only 1 chance afetr that say good bye, he promised to change and never did and by the last time it was real hard to say no more, i regret not loosing him sooner

Forgive them for what??? Not showing up on time is much different than having them cheat on you. One can be worked on, the other can't because the trust is gone. Try the following formula:
You burn me once, it's your fault.

depends on what he does. If they cheat kick them 2 the curb. If its somthing minor maybe once. you can only say sorry so many times.
