Windows Messenger is a Windows component that can be removed through Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components. However, you are not likely to get rid of it for all times. Some Windows updates and some Microsoft programs will re-install it for you! Just bow to the fact that Microsoft knows what is best for you (mainframe mentality) and live with it.

You can keep it from starting with Windows using MSConfig or utilities such as PC Magazine's Startup Cop Pro, but even there, it sometimes gets reset.

START - then set program access and defaults - then add remove windows programs and components - find windows messenger and uncheck the box. If it's not there, it can be hidden! Try the link below - that may tell you how to find the file that hides it. When you find the file - you find the line with windows messenger in and remove the word hide.

The easiest way is to find the Windows Messenger folder on your hard drive, either in the Windows Folder or the Programs Folder, right click on it and rename it calling it something unusual such as WWT.jpeg. When Windows restarts, it will look for the folder, won't be able to find it, and it won't load. Also, view the link below from Microsoft.

that shyt use to drive me krazie to. exit out of the program. if you cant uninstall it from the add/remove programs. just go and delete the program files folder for it. double click on your hard drive, double click on program files folder, delete the folder called "messenger". might want to open that folder first and see whats inside of it just to verify for yourself that its the correct folder. if windows says that mmsgr or something similar is in use and cant b deleted, press ctrl+alt+del to access the task manager and stop that file from running & then try to delete the folder / file again.

Once open click ADD/REMOVE WIINDOWS components.
Scroll down the list till you see WINDOWS MESSENGER.
remove the hook in the window next to eat and close.

WINDOWS LITE has a number of good functions, so it may be worthwhile to install it.
