It's when two people live together without getting married. It is stupid because it opens the door to the temptation of both parties to fornicate, and also because it shows that neither side seems willing to make a committment, which is, in those two people's view, the whole point of "shacking up." It shows that neither side wants to commit in the first place, and is therefore pointless.

I would assume it means the same to non Christians and Christians alike. It is the act of living together without the benefit of a marriage license. It's a way of having your cake and eating it too.

I think it means living with someone of the opposite sex whom you are not married to, no matter what religion you are. But to Christians, it's a shameful thing to do, while to most rational thinking people, it's a smart thing to do to test the waters and see if you can stand being married to this person before you rush in too fast.

It is a sin. It is two people living together as man and wife and not being man and wife. They are called fornicators which goes against God. It is a sin that is in need of repentance, and to stop living together and live apart after you repent.
