What kind of baits, mixtures, power baits, and so on, do you use to catch trout, and how successful are you?

A size 0 Mepps spinner in silver or a 1/32 oz chartreuse grub have always been my fav.

Some guys use very small minnows with excellent results, but I think live bait is for cheaters.

Worms are great! I use the real ones and the rubber kinds. They like the ones with glitter on it. Also, use corn from the can as chum to get them comming. Once I even used corn on my hook and landed a decent sized rainbow trout. That was a last ditch effort and that was the last time I ever got a rainbow trout. I mostly go for crappies now. They're easier to catch, next to catfish. I don't like the noise they make so I just throw them back! I know...silly.

Most of my success catching trout on bait has been using berkley powerbait paste and nuggetts in rainbow and lemon twist flavours. A good old fashoined worm drifted on its own or suspended under a small bubble float also works well.Small yabbies under a float will attract a viscious strike from large trout. I have also caught them using the stimulate instant bait.

The 2 most effective baits that have worked for me are Worms & Spinners (used seperately)....

My set-up for catching trout on worm usually consists of:
6ft Shakespeare UGLY STIK Gold spinning rod (a UK model)

Shakespeare reel holding plenty of 6 - 8lb monofilament

A bullet or coffin weight (about 1/4oz), sliding freely on the reel line.

A small swivel to stop the weight from going any further.

an 18" Trace made from 6lb or less Mono, with a 12 - 14 hook on the end.
Some people at the local Trout Reservoir use a Worm & Powerbait Cocktail..... I usually just use a worm on it's own on my local stretch of river... which is usually a pretty hard place to catch, alot of people blank along that bit....... but this method works for me.

Where allowed (in my case only on my local stretch of River), my other favourite method is to use a 1/8oz Spinner...... preferably a from Panther-Martin's range (broke a 10yr barren spell of not catching on a lure with one of these), available from http://panthermartin.com

Salted minnows work great as do the old trusties (red worms, night crawlers, maggots and grub worms). I haven't really gotten into the power bait but have tried the pink with silver flecks in it with good results. Corn is also one of my favorites, never seems to fail, toss alittle into the hole and catch away. The last time I went fishing, I had only grub worms and night crawlers, wasn't doing that great until someone came up and gave me some corn, caught 35 after that.

Get a tiny piece of a nightcrawler and put an eggshell sinker above the hook on the line. Stuff the inside of the sinker with berkley powerbait stink bait dough (use the trout variety), then cast and let it sink. only jig it every once in awhile. fan cast to locate them.

Try the small, dry-mix dog biscuits like Pedigree Chum mixers. They float on the surface really well and fish go mad for them. You can get really tiny bait-bands from tackle shops for attaching to the hook, or score a groove in them and superglue them on, they will float on the surface with the hook in dry air away from the fishes view. Alternatively you can soak them overnight in cold water in a tub and thread 3 or 4 onto a long shank Aberdeen hook.

when fishing for trout in running streams try a small hook and 1 single kernel of sweet corn.
use a round weight so not to hang up on rocks and cast up stream into rapid moving water and do your best to keep your line retracted as it moves down stream.i have had excellent success with this method.

I heard trout go nuts over chicken livers...you make little pouches out of panty hose and put some liver in it, and you can reuse it!!!
